A Michigan woman found $3,4 million to buy the work boots she needed to help her get back on her feet after she was fired from a factory job last year.
The money was the result of a state initiative to help people in need who had lost their jobs after losing their homes, the Detroit News reported.
In a statement, Gov.
Rick Snyder said he had been “heartened” by the donations and that he wanted to encourage Michigan to use its power to help those in need.
“Michigan has done it again, and it’s time for the state to take the next step and use its resources to help others in need,” he said.
The program, known as Work With Me, allows people who are in financial need to receive free work boots for six months.
Snyder has pledged to provide $1 million for the program in his first year in office.
The governor also announced that he would provide $2 million for a program that provides emergency assistance for families and individuals in need, including $1.5 million for child care and $1,000 per person for food and clothing.
More than 200 people have signed on to the effort so far, the Associated Press reported.
